Tuition costs

  • Tuition fees for higher education programmes in the Netherlands might vary based on institution type, programme, and nationality
  • For EU/EEA students the average tuition price for Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes is from €6,000 to €15,000 per year while for non-EU/EEA students it ranges from €8,000 to €25,000 per year. PhD programmes are typically supported by institutions and do not need tuition payments.

Living costs

  • In general, the cost of living is higher in major cities like Amsterdam and Rotterdam than in smaller cities. A furnished room in a shared apartment may cost between €400 and €800 per month, whereas a one-bedroom apartment may cost between €800 and €1200 per month. Utilities like as electricity, gas, water, and internet can add an additional €150 to €200 to your monthly bills.

Job Prospects

  • While EU/EEA students can work unrestrictedly while studying, non-EU/EEA students are allowed to work maximum 16hr/week while studying. And full-time during June, July, and August and non-EU/EEA students also need work permit for any kind of work.
  • After graduation, students are entitled to a 1-year orientation visa which allows them to stay in the Netherlands to look for jobs and upon a successful job hunt and a willing sponsor the student can then obtain a work permit

Climate

  • The Netherlands has a marine climate that is temperate, with pleasant winters and chilly summers. The average temperature during the winter months of December, January, and February is approximately 3 to 4 degrees Celsius, while the average temperature during the summer months of June, July, and August is approximately 17 to 18 degrees Celsius. Yet, temperatures can fluctuate significantly based on place and season.
  • It is essential that overseas students arrive in the Netherlands equipped for the climate. This involves carrying warm and waterproof gear for the colder and wetter months, as well as comfortable and breathable apparel for the warmer months.
