General Study Visa requirements for the UK

Below are the general requirements a student needs to have fulfilled before applying for a visa to study in the UK:

  • Valid travel document (Passport, copy of all pages)
  • Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from your higher education institute
  • Passport-sized photograph according to the ICAO criteria (colour photograph, size 3.5 x 4.5 cm) not older than 6 months
  • Proof of sufficient financial means to cover the living costs for 12 months in advance. This can be done with presenting either a bank statement spanning last 6 months, or a proof of employment (including salary slips for last 6 months). As of 2023, living costs are set as:
    • £1,334 per month (for up to 9 months) for courses in London
    • £1,023 per month (for up to 9 months) for courses outside London
    • You must have this money for at least 28 consecutive days. The end date of the 28-day period must be within 31 days of the date you apply for your visa.
  • Your tuberculosis test results
  • Proof of language proficiency (IELTs etc.)
